River Valley 2025 Projects
River Valley has successfully been awarded the restoration project located at Steveston Village BC for the historic Britannia Shipyards.
Historically, the businesses at the Britannia Shipyards serviced or built boats connected to the fishing industry. The Britannia Shipyard building mainly serviced seine net boats, while the Richmond Boat Builders and Murakami Boatworks buildings served to build or repair gillnet boats. As the mainstay of the salmon fishing industry, gillnet boats would have been plentiful in Steveston throughout the 20th century.
Heritage Boat Restoration Program (Program) at Britannia Shipyards would bring to life the site and provide unique and memorable experiences to visitors that illustrate Steveston’s unique heritage.

The Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal rehabilitation project was a large undertaking, in that throughout construction the ferry terminal was in operation at full capacity. To achieve completion on this project, RVCS had to work a combination of night shift work, and targeted lane closures. Our crew was required to complete multiple types of concrete restoration including overhead patching, concrete demolition on posts and beams, and forming/pouring. All work done on beams and posts were required to be supplemented with engineered shoring. This was a very challenging and complex project from a coordination perspective. Our team enjoyed the challenges that this project presented.

Potable Water, Waste Water, And Reservoirs
RVCS was tasked with the installation of the FRP grating and media installation for this project. This required flying the FRP grating and the media blocks into the tank with a crane. At the completion of the trickle filter installation, RVCS found itself tasked with the installation of the radial arm that spreads the waste to filter through the filter system. Installing the radial arm required a lot of mechanical work, tension cable installation, and electrical. RVCS was required to have two shifts to complete this project in the allotted time. Our team is very diverse and can rise to the occasion.

Located in Fernie B.C. and fed by Fairy Creek this reservoir was in need of rehabilitation to continue adequate water supply to the city of Fernie. Construction began early September 2024 and closed out mid November 2024. The rehabilitation scope was designed by Associated Engineering and included interior and exterior crack repair and the installation of a new envelope system on the exterior walls and roof to ensure the longevity of the structure. RVCS acted as the prime contractor working with both Advanced Level Roofing and Summit Works to provide the full restoration and upgrade to the reservoir. A highlight of this project was RVCS’s confined space program. RVCS recommended and welcomed the local fire department of Fernie to review and inspect the onsite confined space set up for access into the 2 reservoir cells. Both cells were accessed by a 1.5m x 1.5m roof hatch that led down into a 22m x 22m cell designed for containing water as well as disinfection via chlorine gas. The Fernie fire department commended RVCS’s confined space plan and procedures to ensure the safety of everyone involved and having them onsite prior to the start of work provided confidence that all emergency preparations were in place with the fire department if they were to be needed.

Waterscapes is a new vibrant lakeside community complex standing 25 floors tall, built along the downtown core of Kelowna. Residents there enjoy beautiful views of the city and enjoy the summer sun from their balconies and other amenities the building offers. The severe heat experienced in the Kelowna summers however began to cause unexpected deterioration along the concrete cornices lining many of the building’s floors. RVCS was contracted to perform the concrete crack injections along the cornices. Each cornice extended 1.5m past the buildings edge and lined the entirety of the top 2 floors and then placed through out the remaining floors serving as both a drainage and aesthetical feature to the building. To access the elevated work locations RVCS worked with RRAH Gold Standard Rope Access Technicians LTD. for rope access. Communication with strata and residents of Waterscape tower was critical to the success of the project as access to some of the suites was needed for repair inspection and safety of the residents while crews worked above was paramount.

These Towers are located in the lower mainland of BC. RVCS completed the installation of hundreds of injection ports by way of drilling through the walls of the below ground parkade without damaging the structure or any wiring or water lines. Urethane resin was injected through the ports to waterproof the structure and stop the damaging effects of the water leaking. After the injection was completed, the ports were removed, and holes patched with specialty mortar to finish this project and leave the parking structure ready for the tenants of the building.

The Alouette Lake Surge Tower is located 22 km up the Florence Lake Service Rd, above Mission, BC. Alouette Lake drains through the Alouette Surge Tunnel into Stave Lake. Just delivering materials and getting the crew to the construction site was a challenge with a road in poor condition. RVCS was required to drill up to one meter through a concrete wall lined with timbers to fill the void behind by way of pumping cementitious grout into the void. This required many holes to be drilled as the tower is very large. Our crew worked from a suspended scaffold, and worked long hours to realize completion of this project. A difficult project in the wilderness of BC.
